Officially launched on Friday, 23 February, 2001, Champion Racing's Audi R8 Le Mans Prototype program had an outstanding inaugural year in the American Le Mans Series, including Champion's first assault on the legendary Le Mans 24 Hour Race. For 2002 Champion Racing welcomed ADT Security Services as Primary Sponsor for the Audi R8 program, including contesting the full American Le Mans Series schedule. In 2003, Team ADT/Champion Racing finished third at Le Mans and came second in the ALMS LMP900 championship with four outright wins, JJ Lehto coming second in the Drivers championship and Johnny Herbert 3rd. The ADT/Champion Audi R8 prototype will return to contest the full American Le Mans Series in 2004, as well as returning to the Le Mans 24 Hour Race.
