Champion Audi RS6 Sears Point Qualifying

Series leader Pobst Qualifies 5th...Reigning champion Galati 9th

26 July - Randy Pobst and Michael Galati start their respective Audi Sport North America supported Audi RS 6 Competitions from the third and fifth rows of the 24-car grid for the 27-lap race. Pobst turned a 1min 43.381secs with Galati stopping the clock at 1:44.787 for fifth and ninth places.

Michael Galati:

“The characteristics of the Sears circuit are not doing us [Audi] any favors.  Because we have all-wheel-drive ‘quattro’ and a twin-turbo V8 motor, the organizing SCCA penalize us with weight and boy it sure hurts us here.  I got completely sideways during qualifying - the condition of the track was not great with oil, dust and stones on it.  I’ll be in conservative mode for the race as it’s important to finish as high as possible.”

Randy Pobst:

“There's not much in the way of straightaways here and for that reason, it is the least favorable of the circuits for our Audi especially as I have 110lbs of ‘rewards’ ballast having finished in the top-three in all previous five races.  I’ve accomplished goal number one in claiming a reasonable grid position - I’m very happy with fifth.  I now have two aims for the race - to lead a lap but also to ‘survive’ and come away with a healthy points haul.”
