The Certified Champion Racing Audi
RS 6s will start today's SPEED World Challenge GT race at Mosport
International Raceway lined up one behind the other. Michael Galati
will start today's "double header" race weekend from the front row
while teammate Randy Pobst will be stationed just behind him.
Michael Galati had an astonishing flying lap just 3:30 minutes
from the end of today's twenty minute qualifying session. After
spinning early at Turn 3, Galati came in to cool off his tires in
attempt to return to the track and capture a better time. With just
minutes remaining, Galati's time of 1:23.557 (105.944 mph) puts him
in the front row next to pole sitter Max Angelelli in the Cadillac
CTS-V car.
Conversely, teammate Randy Pobst locked in his 4th place position
early on during qualifying. On lap five, ten minutes into the
session, Pobst turned his fastest time of 1:23.954 (105.442 mph).
This will put him directly behind his teammate, Michael Galati, a
combination that has proved advantageous for the all-wheel-drive,
quattro Audi RS 6s on the standing starts.
Round Six of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT "double header"
race weekend at Mosport International Raceway, takes the green flag
today, Saturday, August 7, at 4:00 p.m. (EDT). The race will be
broadcast next Sunday, August 15, on SPEED Channel at 1 p.m. (EDT).
Michael Galati (Olmstead, OH). "Unfortunately I went off on my
first qualifying attempt at Turn 3 and took on some grass. So I
decided I'd better cool off the tires some and try it again. I was
hoping to get another good lap in and I actually got a great lap. It
was one of those laps where you are just hanging by your teeth. "
Randy Pobst (Gainesville, GA). "I'm very pleased with this
result. I think the cool weather this morning was a benefit to our
turbo-charged Audi RS 6s. And also our Toyo tires like the cool
weather. Michael and I are going to be on one side of the track,
front to back. We're going to take off and we're going to lead
early. I'm pleased at the speed that our Audis showed this morning
despite all the REWARDS and adjustment weight we've received since
the beginning of the year. Champion Racing works miracles when it
comes to a qualifying set-up. The race will be a completely
different story. As always, we pray for rain."
Louis Milone (RS 6 Team Leader). "I'm very happy with this
result. It was better than we expected. We struggled a little bit
yesterday and we're still struggling with some gremlins with
Michael's car. It's a similar problem to the one we had in Portland.
We do think it's related so we'll be back in the fuel tanks after
this session. This is usually a good track for us and a competitive
one as well."
